As followers of Jesus Christ, we are all on a lifelong journey attaining knowledge about him and his teachings, as well as fostering a closer relationship with Christ. But our daily lives are busy with work and family and we can get stuck in our faith - not knowing how to move forward or possibly begin. There is a proven and easy pathway that we are excited to share with you.

We are beginning an initiative at St. Bartholomew called Ignite Your Faith. We have developed a plan consisting of four simple, yet powerful phases to lead you through the process, namely:

  • Prayer (Oct. 2016 – Jan. 2017)
  • Study (Feb. – May 2017)
  • Generosity (Sept. – Dec. 2017)
  • Evangelization (Jan. – May 2018)

The Ignite Your Faith Initiative kicked off Sept. 17 & 18 and included the distribution of The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic, by Matthew Kelly, for parishioners. This book will provide the framework for our initiative. We are asking all teen and adult members to read this potentially life-changing book as we begin to embark on this transformative journey together. Below is a brief description of each phase.

 IGNITE YOUR FAITH T-SHIRTS

We still have a small remaining inventory of "Ignite Your Faith" t-shirts - especially size M and L. We are offering these at a special discount of 20% off, for a total of $12. This could make a great holiday gift - for yourself, a family member, or friend! Please contact Jonell Cella (jonellcella@yahoo.com) to inquire about the size(s) you need and for payment and pick-up instructions.

From October 2016 through January 2017 we explored ways to talk to God and how to fit prayer into our daily life.  During this phase our main events included a book discussion of the prayer chapter, led by parishioner Tod Worner; an evening with Fr. Michael Joncas, entitled Prayer Through Word and Song, and the half-day Ignite Prayer Retreat, featuring internationally-known speaker Ryan O'Hara.

FEBURARY - MAY 2017
Now that we have been practicing growing our relationship with God through prayer, Matthew Kelly names the second sign as "all about our continuous learning, the daily discipline of exploring the way of Jesus and the genius of Catholicism." There are many opportunities to learn about our beautiful faith in phase two and listed below are some of the upcoming events:

EVENTS:

Nic Davidson:  Why Be Catholic?
Open to all ages:  Nic is an energetic and funny speaker who is on fire for his faith.  Come join us to learn about and ponder the question we might all have asked ourselves at one point in our lives, "WHY BE CATHOLIC?" With the guidance of Nic Davidson, a youth minister, missionary, speaker, and author, this one-hour event will help provide a different perspective on our Catholic faith and inspire us to embrace God's gift of the Church.  No registration needed. Invite your family and friends to join you!

(Sept. - Dec. 2017) Being a good steward with our money, time and talent plays a significant role in generosity because it becomes a byproduct of a way of life.

During this phase we will discern:
  • How generosity is at the heart of the Christian life.

  • What habits a generous person exhibits and small steps to take to become more generous.

  • How to discern God’s ways vs. worldly ways and their effects on us.

Some of the events we are planning, include:
  • “Give It Away”— a 30-day Challenge

  • Small Group Book Discussion: The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic, date TBD. Topic will be the Generosity chapter (pages 109–140).

  • Kingdom Assignment — Version 2.0

  • Family and Individual Volunteer Opportunities

(Jan. - May 2018) Let’s learn how to bring the word of God to others. We’ll practice living with intentionality so that we can transform our lives in virtue and character, and lead others to do so as well.

Look for some events and programs around:
  • Be a Game Changer

  • Small Group Book Discussion: The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic.  Topic will be the Evangelization chapter (pages 143-187).   Date TBD.

  • Be Your BEST Self
