SYNOD

Synod Update | November 20, 2022

Pastoral Letter “You Will Be My Witnesses” Released

Our Archdiocese recently concluded a synod process involving three years of listening, preparation and engagement with laity, consecrated women and men, and clergy from parishes across the Twin Cities metro area. On November 19, Archbishop Hebda released a pastoral letter detailing the Synod priorities.

At St. Bart’s, we have appointed a Synod Evangelization Team of 12 parishioners to help follow the Holy Spirit’s leading, participate in this Archdiocesan renewal, and implement the Synod priorities in our parish. Your prayers and involvement are going to be essential as we move forward!

Below you will find a link to the pastoral letter along with a video from Archbishop Hebda that introduces his pastoral letter and explains why it's important for you, as a member of our local church to read it, pray about it and share it with others.

Archdiocesan Synod Overview

During Pentecost 2019, the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis began a Synod process with the goal of helping Archbishop Hebda discern, through a consultative process, the pastoral priorities of our local Church today – and into the near future.

Your participation, as the Catholic faithful, is key to a successful Synod. All parishioners are invited to participate by offering your prayers, pastoral concerns, and ideas for moving this Archdiocese forward.

Pray. Reflect. Follow. – Your Role in Synod 2022

Archbishop Hebda asks for your prayers for the final phase in the Synod process. Your pastor and two parish representatives will meet, along with other assembly members, for the Synod Assembly on Pentecost weekend, June 3-5, 2022. Learn more about this process in The Catholic Spirit and in this infographic.

How can you stay involved during these final stages of the Synod process?

  • Pray. Prayer has always been integral to our Archdiocesan Synod process. Please continue to keep the Synod in your prayers and pray in particular for Synod representatives from your parish. Find prayer opportunities at archspm.org/synod/pray.

  • Reflect. The same three focus areas we discussed during the Parish Consultation will be examined in-depth throughout the remainder of the Synod process. Watch the Parish Consultation videos – again, or for the first time – and reflect on these important topics at archspm.org/synodsmallgroups.

  • Follow. Follow The Catholic Spirit to stay up-to-date on the latest news about the Archdiocesan Synod. Visit thecatholicspirit.com.
